Because the enamel of your teeth is so porous, stains from black tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco products, and some pigmented foods can develop easily. Those with stains may have tried to counter this with whitening toothpastes or over-the-counter whitening strips. However, abrasive ingredients in toothpastes can wear down the enamel and may actually make your teeth more yellow. This is because the layer beneath the enamel, the dentin, is yellow in color and begins to show through. Bleaching strips may give uneven results. Procedure

After Dr. Bryson or Dr. Margio clean your teeth, your lips and gums will then be covered leaving only your teeth exposed. A whitening gel is then applied to your teeth. The active ingredient in the gel is hydrogen peroxide. A special light is shone on your teeth which activates the hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide penetrates the enamel and helps to remove deep stains. This is done in three 15-minute sessions in which discoloration and staining is broken up. A fluoride rinse is used after the final session. The entire process, including the initial tooth cleaning takes about 90 minutes. Zoom! 2 tooth whitening will give you a dramatic and bright smile.

Take-Home Kits

In addition to the in-office Zoom! tooth whitening procedure, take-home kits can be made to custom fit your teeth. These kits are much better to use than over-the-counter products and are much more effective. By using the take-home bleaching trays for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, you can keep your teeth white on your own time after your Zoom! procedure is completed.

Side Effects

Using Zoom! tooth whitening is completely safe. Because the active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide, only those with sensitive teeth may feel some discomfort. In these cases, desensitizing gel can be used. In rare occasions a temporary tingling may continue after the Zoom! tooth whitening procedure is completed. A desensitizing gel will be given to you to take home and use for this with your customized trays.
